Fall is Coming.. What Skin Treatments Should You Be Considering?

I hate to say it, but fall is coming!

And while I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye to summer yet, fall is actually one of my favourite times of year when it comes to treating the skin.

After a summer of sunshine, heat, lake days, camping, holidays and just generally spending more time outside, you might start noticing some changes in your skin. Maybe you have a few new sun spots, your pigmentation is looking a little darker, your skin feels dry or dull, or you're just ready to get back into a good skincare routine.

Here are a few treatments I would consider as we head into the cooler months.

IPL Photofacial

If you're looking in the mirror after summer thinking, where did all of these brown spots come from? — IPL might be a great place to start.

IPL uses light energy to target things like sun damage, pigmentation and redness. It's one of my favourite options for clients who want to improve their overall skin tone and tackle some of the damage that tends to show up after summer. Because we need to be careful with sun exposure before and after IPL, fall and winter are a great time to start a treatment series.

Not everyone is a candidate for IPL, though, which is why we'll always assess your skin first and make sure it's the right option for you.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are another treatment I love heading into fall, especially if your skin is feeling dull, congested or just a little blah.

A peel helps exfoliate that buildup of dead skin cells and can improve the look of texture, pigmentation, congestion and overall brightness.

And if the words chemical peel immediately make you picture your entire face peeling off — don't panic! There are different types and strengths of peels. We can choose something that works for your skin and your goals without necessarily having a ton of downtime.

Microneedling

If texture, fine lines, acne scarring or overall skin quality are higher on your list of concerns, this is a great time to start thinking about microneedling.

Microneedling works by creating controlled microchannels in the skin, which triggers your body's natural healing response and supports collagen production. This is one of those treatments where we're playing the long game. Rather than just giving the skin a temporary glow, we're encouraging it to gradually improve over time.

Depending on what we're treating, I may recommend a series rather than just one treatment.

HydraFacial

Maybe you don't have one major skin concern and you just feel like your skin needs a really good reset after summer.

Enter: HydraFacial.

HydraFacial combines cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and hydration, and it's one of my go-to treatments for getting the skin looking and feeling fresh again. It's also a great option if you have an event coming up and want that hydrated, healthy glow without a bunch of downtime.

Dermaplaning

Simple, but so good.

Dermaplaning removes dead skin buildup along with the fine facial hair (peach fuzz) on the surface of the skin. Your skin feels incredibly smooth afterward, and makeup tends to sit beautifully.

We can also pair dermaplaning with other treatments when appropriate to give your facial a little extra boost.

And Please Don't Put Away Your SPF!

Just because summer is over doesn't mean sunscreen season is over.

SPF is an everyday thing — yes, even in Alberta in the middle of winter.

This is especially important if we're investing time and money into treating pigmentation and sun damage. We don't want to work hard improving your skin only to skip one of the biggest things that helps protect those results.

Fall is also a good time to take another look at your home skincare routine. As the weather gets colder and drier, your skin may need a little more hydration or some changes to the products you're using.

So... What Should You Book?

This is probably the most important part: You don't need to know.

You don't have to figure out whether you need IPL, microneedling, a peel or a facial before you come see us. Tell us what you don't love about your skin. Tell us what you'd like to improve. Tell us what your budget is, how much downtime you're comfortable with and what you're hoping to achieve.

We'll help you figure out the rest.

At Glow, I'd much rather recommend the treatment that actually makes sense for your skin than have you book something simply because you saw it online.

So if summer was good to you... but maybe not quite as good to your skin, fall is the perfect time for a reset.

Come see us and let's make a plan for your skin. 🤍

Treatment suitability varies from person to person. A consultation and skin assessment may be required before treatment. Results vary, and appropriate sun protection and pre- and post-treatment care are important with many aesthetic treatments.
